Therapeutic Approach
Every adolescent who receives treatment at Cove Forge participates in a treatment program that is tailored to his special needs. Residents participate in individual therapy at least once a week, group therapy four days a week, and family therapy at least twice a month, as well as a variety of workshops and educational courses. Residents also participate in experiential ropes therapy on our 16-station high and low ropes course twice a week.
Family Involvement
Family involvement is an integral part of our adolescent mental health treatment programs. We attempt to involve families in every aspect of the treatment process, including:
- A face-to-face family assessment conducted by the family counselor
- Regular involvement in the treatment planning process
- Monthly update reviews
- Individual family sessions
- Regular program visits and home visits
- Weekly phone calls by the resident's case manager/counselor
- Report cards each grading period
- Referral to appropriate family resource advocacy groups
We invite family members and appropriate caregivers to attend family therapy sessions at least twice a month, either by phone or in person. During these sessions, the family and teen explore the roles, coping strategies, and patterns that have characterized their relationships and learn new ways to interact and meet each other's needs. The primary goal of family therapy is to help the family support the adolescent in treatment and to facilitate a successful transition back home when possible.
Recognizing that change is never easy, we honor and celebrate our residents and their families for their valiant attempts to deal with crises and for their resiliency and perseverance in identifying new and effective solutions.
