Therapeutic Approach
Every adolescent who receives treatment at Cove Forge participates in a treatment program that is tailored to his special needs. Residents participate in individual therapy at least once a week, group therapy four days a week, and family therapy at least twice a month, as well as a variety of workshops and educational courses. Residents also participate in experiential ropes therapy on our 16-station high and low ropes course twice a week.
Adolescent Mental Health Treatment Consistent with CASSP Principles
Cove Forge provides adolescent mental health services in a manner consistent with the Child and Adolescent Service System Program (CASSP) principles. Specifically, Cove Forge is committed to providing teen residential mental health treatment in a manner that is child-centered, family-focused, community-based, multi-systems collaborative, and culturally competent.
Child-Centered: Our mental health services for teens are delivered on the basis of an individualized treatment plan developed from a thorough assessment of each patient and with input from the adolescent, his family, and referral sources.
Family-Focused: Cove Forge seeks to return the adolescent to his family whenever possible and works with the family to help build upon existing strengths and develop additional skills necessary for successful reunification. We recognize that due to a variety of environmental and economic reasons, not all families will be able to immediately become involved in treatment. In these cases, our treatment staff makes every attempt to maintain frequent contact by phone or mail with the family to keep them apprised of their teen's progress in treatment.
Community-Based: One of the goals of treatment at Cove Forge is to help the adolescent and his family develop an effective support network in their home community. As part of discharge and continuing care planning, Cove Forge works cooperatively with the referring agency and the interagency team from the adolescent's home county to assess the availability of community resources to support the adolescent and his family.
Multi-System Collaborative: Cove Forge works closely with the referring agency, the interagency team, and the primary case manager beginning prior to admission and continuing up to and beyond discharge. Cove Forge staff participates in interagency team meetings as appropriate to monitor progress on treatment goals and to help decide on the need for continued care. Additionally, the Cove Forge teaching staff coordinates with the teen's home school to ensure continuity of educational efforts.
Culturally Competent: Cove Forge is committed to maintaining a culturally divergent staff that reflects the diversity of the clients we serve.
