Therapeutic Approach
Every adolescent who receives treatment at Cove Forge participates in a treatment program that is tailored to his special needs. Residents participate in individual therapy at least once a week, group therapy four days a week, and family therapy at least twice a month, as well as a variety of workshops and educational courses. Residents also participate in experiential ropes therapy on our 16-station high and low ropes course twice a week.
Treatment Planning
Treatment planning begins when a young man is admitted to Cove Forge, and continues through to discharge and continuing care planning. We gather information from a series of assessments and work with the family to identify initial treatment goals and create a comprehensive, individualized treatment plan. These initial assessments may include:
- Nursing assessment conducted by an RN or LPN
- History and physical exam conducted by a physician
- Psychiatric evaluation conducted by a licensed psychiatrist
- Psychological assessment conducted by a licensed psychologist
- Family assessment, which includes information about the resident's family relationships and history, family strengths and weaknesses, and the cultural context in which the family operates
- Educational assessment conducted by the education department
- Emotional/behavioral/social assessment conducted by the nurse or counselor, which includes an evaluation of the community context and culture the resident came from and will be returning to upon discharge, and may include race, religion, ethnic identification, social values, and community resources
- Activities/leisure assessment
All treatment goals and plans are reviewed regularly by our intensive treatment teams, which consist of a psychiatrist, counselors, nursing staff, program directors, behavioral specialists, internal case managers, and referral sources. Based on each resident's needs, progress, and goals, our clinical team reviews and revises the treatment plan at least every 30 days throughout treatment.
