Located in Williamsburg, Pennsylvania, Cove Forge Behavioral Health System offers compassionate care for adults age 18 and older who are struggling with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health concerns. Our comprehensive services include a family program that is designed for individuals whose loved ones are receiving care for addictions at our facility. This stand-alone program provides patients’ family members and significant others with the opportunity to learn more about addiction and actively participate in the healing process. Participants can receive professional guidance and practical resources to help them navigate the recovery journey alongside their loved one.
Who Can Participate?
We understand that recovery is a lifelong journey that involves a person’s entire support system. Our family program is intended for family members and significant others of patients who are participating in our residential and partial hospitalization programs. The program offers patients’ families the information they need to help them better understand addiction and the healing process, as well as tools to support their loved one when they have completed their care.
People who wish to participate in our family program do not need to have any prior knowledge of addiction or addiction treatment. While in the program, you can receive:
- Information about the underlying causes of substance use disorders and how they can impact families and relationship dynamics
- Practical strategies for healthy communication with a family member who is in recovery
- Guidance on how to play a constructive role in your loved one’s healing process
What To Expect
At Cove Forge Behavioral Health System, we believe in taking a holistic approach to care to address the unique needs of our patients. That is why we encourage the involvement of patients’ family members in the recovery process whenever possible.
Our stand-alone family program is designed to engage, inform, and empower families as their loved ones move forward on the journey toward lifelong healing. Key components of the program include:
- Personalized care: Our family programming is personalized to meet the specific needs of each patient and their support system. Patients can designate the family members they wish to involve in the program, which may include significant others and extended relatives.
- Education on the science of addiction: Families can expect to receive valuable information about how a substance use disorder affects a person’s brain function, behavior, and relationship dynamics. Educational topics may include the stages of addiction and recovery, relapse prevention, and the importance of self-care for family members.
- Family therapy sessions: Family therapy sessions can help program participants better understand the nature of addiction and explore healthy ways to be there for their loved one as they heal. They also provide a safe space for families to learn and communicate about their loved one’s recovery journey without fear of stigma or judgment. Sessions are led by a family counselor, who may incorporate evidence-based practices such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), the 12-Step recovery model, and motivational interviewing (MI).
Our overall goal with our family program is to help patients build and maintain strong, meaningful connections with those who matter most, which can promote sustained healing.
Benefits of Our Family Program in Williamsburg, PA
Research consistently shows that people who receive strong support from their loved ones are more likely to complete substance use disorder programming and less likely to relapse in the future. However, it can be difficult to know how best to support someone who is struggling with an addiction when you don’t have the appropriate tools and guidance.
In our family program, you can get practical information that can help you care for yourself and your loved one as they move toward long-term healing. Possible benefits of participating in the program include:
- Greater understanding of addiction and recovery: Families can gain insight into what their loved one may be experiencing and what the recovery process might involve. This information can help families feel more encouraged and empowered.
- Improved communication and boundary-setting skills: Participants can learn tools to help them navigate difficult conversations, rebuild trust, and establish healthy boundaries. Improved communication and boundary-setting skills can foster healthier relationship dynamics.
