Program Overview

Introduction to our partial hospitalization program for addiction treatment

The partial hospitalization program at Cove Forge Behavioral Health is a co-ed treatment program at our main campus in Williamsburg, PA, and our outpatient location in Pittsburgh, PA. Most individuals enter PHP as a step-down level of care following residential treatment, with eventual transition to an outpatient treatment program in their home area. Our program includes a housing component, with separate residences for men and women.

In order to be admitted to the partial hospitalization program, the client must be free from acute withdrawal signs and symptoms and must have completed their detoxification taper. Patients must be chemically dependent, psychiatrically stable, and capable of functioning in this level of care. Patients must be age 18 or older to qualify for admission. Programming within the partial hospitalization program occurs seven days per week.

The goals for the partial hospitalization program are:

  • Achieve and maintain abstinence
  • Increase patient and family understanding of chemical dependency
  • Gain acceptance of the disease
  • Learn tools of recovery and stages of relapse
  • Encourage the use of personal support groups such as NA, AA, CODA, ACOA, and Al-Anon
  • Establish and commit to aftercare plan

Therapies & Interventions

Therapies and interventions offered in the partial hospitalization program at Cove Forge Behavioral Health

Individuals in the partial hospitalization program at our treatment center can benefit from a number of different interventions, such as:

Medication management: Physicians, physician assistants, and nurses are available to provide medication monitoring services for individuals in the partial hospitalization program whose treatment plans include medication management. Visits with a psychiatrist can also be scheduled on an as-needed basis.

Individual therapy: Those in the partial hospitalization program at our treatment center will meet with their primary counselor two times weekly. Individual therapy provides an opportunity for individuals to process their successes and setbacks, receive support, and discuss issues that they may not be comfortable discussing during groups.

Group therapy: Groups are a core component of the partial hospitalization program at our treatment center. They provide an opportunity for individuals to build relationships, support and be supported by each other, and practice skills that they have been learning during treatment. Groups at our Williamsburg-based treatment center are based on a number of therapeutic models, such as:

  • Reality Therapy/Choice Therapy

These family therapy sessions, which are conducted by counselors, give family members a chance to process issues such as codependency and being an adult child of an alcoholic. In addition, counselors in the partial hospitalization program also maintain communication with family members to provide updates while a loved one is in treatment, provided that the individual grants permission to do so.
